Significance of Aashura
Special Programme, at Musjid ut Taqwa on September 9, 2019
Allah SWT has attached greatness and significance to 10 Muharram, the day of Aashura. Two major events occurred on this day in history, established from the Ahadith - the salvation of Musa AS and the Bani Isra’il from the tyranny of Fir’aun and Nuh AS and his followers from the great deluge. Musa AS and Nuh AS fasted on this day in gratitude to All?h SWT and Nabi-e-Kareem ?, being the forerunner in all good actions, instructed the Sahaba RA to observe this fast. Reflecting on the generosity of All?h SWT who rewards this one day of fasting with forgiveness of one year’s sins should engender and enhance His love in our hearts. Spending generously on the family is a means of Barakah in one’s sustenance for the year, but ensure to follow the Sunnah way which is simple, easy and beautiful. Keep at least one day’s fast so we do not deprive ourselves completely of the rewards, however two days is more rewarding and three days is best, according to Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri (R). Dedicate a part of the day to Taubah and Istighfar, considering the upheaval and turmoil in our country and around the world. All?h SWT sent Nuh AS as a reformer to take the people out of shirk. Despite his outstanding patience, eloquence and convincing arguments, only a maximum of around 80 people accepted his message and were saved. Those who will jump aboard the ‘Ark’ of Iman, Deen and Sunnah in the oceans of fitna which are rising very quickly in the world, will attain salvation. All?h SWT will wipe out the Fir’auns of this day and age, if we make ourselves worthy of His Help by adopting the qualities of the Bani Isra’il under Musa AS, of obedience and turning to Him.
