Zikr Majlis, at Musjid ut Taqwa on September 6, 2018

The poetry ‘Ishqe Asnam’ of Maulana Shah Hakeem Akhtar Sb (R) from the compilation Faizan-e-Muhabbah is being discussed. The poetry begins, ‘With the love of idols we found that the hearts became restless’, idols referring to beloved ones or beloved things which are prohibited or which lead to the disobedience of Allah SWT. It does not make sense for a Believer to give his heart to something that is going to perish and that cause him regret and remorse. That which Allah SWT has made halal to love such as one’s wife, children etc., love unconditionally, so long as that love does not exceed the love for Allah and His Rasul (SAW). The hearts of those who engage in the Zikr and remembrance of Allah SWT become the envy of gardens! The heart deprived of the remembrance of Allah SWT through ghaflah (negligence) becomes a barren desert. The wise and intelligent person will never give preference to these deserts and barren lands over a flourishing garden, nor will he give preference to a life of restlessness over one of peace and tranquility. Rather, he has his route charted out in front of him – a straight path to Allah SWT in this world and to Jannah in the Hereafter! When a person makes a conscious choice of following that straight road, the contentment and fulfilment to be found is something that cannot be quantified, however, as Hazrat (R) explains, nothing is achieved without sacrifice. Once the compass of the heart identifies its true direction of Sirat-ul-Mustaqeem restlessness will be eliminated, sakinah (tranquility) will prevail and their Iman will rise higher and higher!
