Reforming the Heart and Society Through Character, Kindness and Sincere Change - Umhlanga Musjid
Jumuah, at Umhlanga Musjid on September 7, 2012
Human beings are surrounded by countless blessings from Allah, yet many fail to appreciate the simple gifts that allow them to live, move, and function every day. Every movement of the body, every joint, every ability to walk, lift, speak, and smile is a favor from Allah that deserves gratitude. Gratitude is not limited to wealth or formal acts of worship alone; rather, every good action performed sincerely becomes a form of sadaqah. A smile, a kind word, helping someone carry a burden, cleaning the masjid, removing harm from a pathway, comforting the sick, and bringing happiness to another person are all acts beloved to Allah.
True Islam is reflected in mercy, compassion, and concern for others. A believer is someone from whose tongue and hands people remain safe. Harm and cruelty are condemned in every form, whether directed towards people or even animals. If cruelty towards an animal can bring punishment from Allah, then the oppression of human beings, especially family members, spouses, children, employees, and relatives, carries even more severe consequences. Oppression destroys homes, relationships, and ultimately the oppressor himself.
Particular emphasis is placed on the terrifying reality of the dua of the oppressed person. Tears shed in pain and injustice do not go unnoticed before Allah. Even if justice appears delayed, Allah promises relief and assistance to those who are wronged. Many people destroy their own peace and future through arrogance, harshness, and abuse of authority, only realizing the consequences when it is too late.
The breakdown of family ties and relationships is also highlighted as one of the great tragedies of modern society. People carry grudges for years, cut off relatives, and delay reconciliation until death suddenly arrives. Yet the very people a person distances himself from are often the same people who will one day stand around his janazah, make dua for him, and lower him into the grave. Life passes quickly, and opportunities to mend hearts and seek forgiveness do not remain forever.
The message ultimately calls towards repentance, reform, kindness, and sincere change. No matter how many mistakes have been made in the past, the door of change remains open. A person who sincerely intends to improve, reconcile relationships, and become a source of goodness for others can still attain the mercy and pleasure of Allah.
