Poetry of Siddiq-Akbar, Sayyidina Abu Bakr (RA)
Zikr Majlis, at Musjid ut Taqwa on February 4, 2021
Couplets from the eloquent poetry, which is in reality a munajat (supplication) of Siddiq-Akbar, Sayyidina Abu Bakr (RA) was beautifully rendered and explained. In this, it is seen in how often poets extol the greatness and praises of Allah Ta’ala, whilst humbling themselves before Him, which He loves so much. Sayyidina Abu Bakr (RA) expresses his state as a bankrupt, disgraced servant who has committed mistake upon mistake, with sins like innumerable strewn pebbles, beseeching with sincerity for mercy and forgiveness from The One who is Most Grand and Glorious. He acknowledges that despite the weaknesses from his side, much kindness, grace and gifts have come from Allah Ta’ala’s side. He begs for such forgiveness of his every sin that wipes them out completely. He requests for cure from all sickness, including that of the heart, and the fulfilment of his needs from The One who is The Curer, Sufficient and the best Protector and Guardian. The beautiful words of this entreaty of this great Khalifa of Islam is a lesson in the Ma’rifah of Allah Ta’ala, teaching the servant his position in relation to his Rabb. It is indeed His sheer Mercy that despite our sinfulness, He still showers all His Favours and Mercies upon us.
