Taqdeer and Tawakkul

Taqdeer and Tawakkul

Islahi Majlis, at Musjid ut Taqwa on January 11, 2021

It is part of the perfection of Iman to have firm belief in Taqdir - everything that happens is destined by Allah Ta’ala. Resigning to what Allah has willed and knowing there is good in it, brings peace of mind, composure and relieves a person of despondency, frustration and despair. When a person has firm belief in Taqdir, he will not put reliance on the means and manoeuvres, but will adopt the means knowing only Allah Ta’ala can put effect in it. This creates an eagerness to turn to Allah in Du’a, drawing close to Him, finding enjoyment in begging of Him and thus, Allah’s special favours are directed towards a person. However, belief in Taqdir does not negate the adoption of necessary means for the fulfilment of one’s needs; discarding the lawful means Allah has created is a sign of weakness for which one will be held accountable. Don’t be negligent and weak in adopting the means, attributing what happens to Taqdir as an excuse for lethargy and carelessness; be diligent and alert and you will be saved from mental dilemma. Belief in Taqdir and adoption of Tadbir (the means Allah has created) are like hand and glove - both have to be adopted for peace of heart and mind. Iman is a powerful mechanism and saving grace which keeps a person mentally and spiritually firm and strong, knowing that life, death and all the details are preordained by Allah Ta’ala.
