The importance of education
Jumuah, at Musjid ut Taqwa on January 10, 2020
This Deen is a Deen of knowledge. Allah Ta’ala mentions the instruments of acquiring knowledge in the very first verses that were revealed. It is through the process of reading and writing that a person comes out of the darkness of ignorance into the light of knowledge. Allah Ta’ala mentions the mission of Nabi (SAW): recite the Quran, let people recite and correct their recitation. The legacy of Islam is to learn foreign languages to convey the message of Islam. The 1st is to recite the Quran, 2nd is to teach and explain the meaning because it needs to be understood in the manner that Allah Ta’ala and Nabi (SAW) intended; 3rd is Hikmah/wisdom, which refers to the Sunnah of Nabi (SAW), his words, advices and way of life. The 4th is to purify, cleanse the hearts of all spiritual maladies. We can see how much importance is placed on education and knowledge, especially that relating to Quran and Sunnah and the establishment of institutes of learning. Islam places a lot of emphasis on literacy. Let it be that our students are very diligent, serious and committed. They must excel. If they are committed and dedicated they will see success. Basic Maktab classes are very important. If they miss, we are depriving them and if they go astray we will be accountable in the court of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.
