One of the fundamental and important pillars of Islam is ‘ENJOINING GOOD AND PROHIBITING EVIL’. There are many aayaat and ahadeeth pertaining to this topic. One of the main causes of the downfall of this Ummah is the negligence in enjoining good and forbidding from evil. It has become the overall attitude of people not to advice, encourage and prohibit others. This is completely incorrect, as it is a sign of selfishness and indifference. Islam encourages us to have concern for others and to have the fikr of others as well. We should work towards the upliftment of the Muslim Ummah.
Nabi (SAW) gave the beautiful example of this ummah as a ship:
There are two decks to this ship i.e. upper and lower. The people on the upper deck have water, whereas those in the lower deck do not have water. If the people on the lower deck feel they don’t want to go upstairs everytime for their water and decide to make a hole in the ship, to let the water of the sea come in, if the people of the upper deck, after finding out about this sit comfortably, if they do not do anything about this and let them do what they want to do, then the outcome would be that the whole ship would sink. Both people of the upper and lower deck would drown.
We should therefore always encourage others towards good and forbid from evil. Even if we are not practicing, InshaAllah one day we will be given the Taufeeq and ability to practise as well. If we do not forbid from evil, when the punishment of Allah befalls, we too will be included in this punishment.
May Allah save us! Aameen.
