There is a phase of 12 months in a year. This is the system of time that has been ordained by Allah Ta’ala. Allah Ta’ala has ordained the four months as sacred and important Dhul Qadah, Dhul Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab. According to Ibn Katheer, there is very high wisdom in loving and giving importance to that which Allah Ta’ala has given importance. So, we should give, respect to these months. In earlier times, it took a long time to reach Makkah for Hajj and they would start from the month of Dhul Qadah and return in Muharram. People used to go for Umrah in the month of Rajab. So, Allah Ta’ala made these months auspicious and prohibited fighting and bloodshed in these months. The early Ummahs too used to show respect to these months. Reward in these months is multiplied and who will abstain from sins is highly rewarded. Nabi (SAW) said: “The best of the fast after the month of Ramadan is the month of Muharram”. Also, before the fasting of Ramadan, Allah Ta’ala made Aashura fast compulsory. Thus there is great reward and significance of this month, so we should engage in more Ibadah (Zikr, Istighfaar, Charity, Nafl Salah etc.)
Our calendar is based on the Hijrah. There were so many difficulties and challenges Nabi (SAW) had in the event of Hijrah. According to Nabi (SAW), the real Muhajir is the one who has made Hijrah from sins. Physical movement is not required to become a real Muhajir, but the transformation from within makes one.
Some people have a false notion that the month of Muharram is auspicious because Hazrat Hussain RA got martyred, but this event took place in 50 AH only. Avoid certain innovated practices (Bidah) in this month. Nabi (SAW) said that every innovated act will lead to Hell fire.
