End the Year with Reflection & Taubah - Albert St Musallah

Zikr Majlis, at Durban on September 29, 2016

1437 AH is ending and 1438 AH is commencing! The ending of one year and the entering of a new year is a time for reflection on the year that went past, and a time of making firm intentions and resolutions especially with regard to one’s Deen. We should analyze whether we are progressing or retrogressing, identify strengths in order to build on them and weaknesses in order to remove them. The Hadith of Rasool (SAW) says that person whose two days are the same, he is in loss! The Mu’min is not content with his position in life but strives to improve and continually progresses until the last day of life, which will be the best day, when he is ready to meet Allah Rabbul Izzat. The importance of reflecting, pondering, thinking, analyzing and evaluating are concepts repeatedly mentioned in the Quran, and are part of the Sunnah. We should take stock of our lives for the purpose of rectifying our matters in this world so on the day of Qiyamah we will not be held to account. End off this year with Taubah and Istighfaar as we are all wrongdoers and transgressors, but the best of those who sin are those who make Taubah. Amongst the beautiful names and attributes of Allah SWT many are those which reflect His quality of forgiveness and mercy. He loves and desires to forgive our sins. If we cannot be on the level of the Muttaqqeen, we can at least be on the level of the Tawwabeen, and we will still attain the pleasure of Allah SWT.
