A Dua teaching Iman, Yaqin & Marifah - Mu?allah Mahmoodiyyah, Westville North

Zikr Majlis, at Musallah Mahmoodiyah, Westville North on August 1, 2024

Nabi-Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam taught the Ummah a beautiful Du’a in which he supplicates, “O Allah, protect me through Your eye that never sleeps”, teaching us to place our reliance not on human or electronic ‘eyes’, but on Allah Ta’ala whose protection is unreachable as mentioned in Ayatul Kursi. In every situation in life, we are helpless and powerless; it is only Allah who has power, therefore one should seek His Power for protection and seek His mercy against it being unleashed for one’s destruction. He then supplicates with sentiments which are a lesson in Iman and Yaqin, “O Allah, You alone are my hope”. The amazing account of an elderly Haji shows how Allah Ta’ala fulfils the needs and does not disappoint those who pin their hopes on Him. Nabi-Karim Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam then teaches us to express our shortcomings, weaknesses, deficiencies and failings before Allah Ta’ala with humility, supplicating with the words, “O Allah, how many a favour You bestowed upon me for which my gratitude to You was very little; How many a trial You have tested me with, over which my patience was very little…” Perhaps the acknowledgement of one’s deficiencies will be the means of one’s forgiveness and salvation on Yawmul Qiyamah. Further lessons drawn from the Du’a of Nabi-Karim Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam is that calamities are a means of purification, rectification, salvation and elevation of ranks in the Akhirah, and that it is the favour of Allah that He conceals one’s faults, therefore one should cover the faults of others to save one from disgrace in both worlds.
