A year of grief

A year of grief

Zikr Majlis, at Zawiyatul-Ihsan on December 31, 2020

The night and day of Jumu’ah are special occasions to turn to Allah in repentance, restoring our relationship with Him, so we can continue on our journey until we reach the ultimate destination… when we return to Him! This year, 2020, can rightfully be called ‘Aam al-Huzn - a year of grief for the Ummah of Nabi-Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam – with the unleashing of the Covid19 virus and the departure of so many Ulama, righteous and beloved ones. However, a Believer does not despair, but has hope in the Mercy of Allah Ta’ala. He has brought these conditions out of His Wisdom. Maut itself is the most eloquent lecturer, and a great ‘eye-opener’! For the Muslimeen, the New Year is not an occasion for us to celebrate. Every sunrise and sunset is a reminder for the Believer about the reality of one's own life – the ‘sunrise’ of birth, passing through the various phases of life, until we finally reach our sunset, disappearing into the grave. This year has been a great wake-up call for humanity - look at the Might of Allah Ta’ala, become humbled and submit to Him. Let it not be that we are ‘zinda murda’ - the ‘living dead’ who are heedless to all reminders. Reflect on those who have left this world, yet are very much alive in the hearts of the Ummah! No one or nothing can solve this problem besides Allah ?Ta’ala, so let's strive to attract His mercy and divert His wrath from mankind, through His obedience and remembrance. Inspiration is gained from the beautiful poetry of Hazrat Khwaja Azizul Hasan Majzoob (R) comprising of advices and Zikrullah.
