Prophetic sermon welcoming Ramadan
Special Programme, at Musjid ut Taqwa on April 23, 2020
We are right on the doorstep of the Mubarak month of Ramadan, and have been blessed with an additional 24 hours to prepare, so we can be ready to hit the month running! Allah Ta’ala has concentrated the goodness of the year in Ramadan, such that the entire year will go well for the one whose Ramadan goes well. Allah Ta’ala grants His select and chosen servants special Taufeeq to make the best of their Ramadan, engrossed in Ibadah. Like a currency printing machine, this one month is an opportunity to ‘print’ as much as one wishes, in rewards from Allah Ta’ala! Just as Allah forgave the 11 brothers of Yusuf (AS) because of 1 brother’s piety and virtue, He will forgive our shortcomings of the 11 months of the year because of this 1 month of Ramadan. Just as a child is born in 9 months, so too we can be spiritually ‘born’ in the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, cleansed and pure like a newborn child.
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) addressed the Sahaba (RA) on the last day of Sha’ban, enumerating the virtues of Ramadan in 7 descriptors: It is a great and blessed month; in which there is a night greater than 1000 months; fasting in the day is fardh and standing at night (in Taraweeh) is Sunnah; a nafl is rewarded as a fardh and a fardh multiplied 70 times; it is a month of Sabr and the reward of Sabr is Jannah; it is a month of compassion, sharing and caring for the poor; in which the sustenance of a Mu’min is increased; and the beginning of it is Rahmah, the middle of it is Maghfirah, and the end of it is freedom from the fire! We are in a state of helplessness; this is a time to take from the treasure of Allah Ta’ala, shedding tears and seeking forgiveness for our sins.
