Wealth must not overpower the love of Allah

Special Programme, at Rustenburg on March 27, 2015

When Allah gives wealth, know that it comes with a great responsibility. Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “For every Ummah there is a test and the test of my Ummah is wealth”. Majority fail this test. We are well acquainted with the first part of the verse, “Hadha min fadli Rabbi” (this is from the bounty of my Lord), but have forgotten the next part which translates as “..to test me if I will be grateful or ungrateful”. Allah also states clearly that we are merely trustees of the wealth given, not owners. Love of the world is a dangerous disease. If we think that Sukoone Dil (peace of heart) comes from worldly things then the wealthiest should’ve had the highest degree of Sukoon, but we know that in most cases it’s the opposite. Sukoon is not a cheap commodity which can be acquired by anyone and everyone. Sukoone Dil can only be acquired by the means and in the environments of Sukoone Dil.
