The martyrdom of leaders in Islam - Masjid-us-Salaam, Phoenix
Jumuah, at Phoenix on August 2, 2024
Throughout the history of Islam, great leaders have been assassinated; outwardly it may appear as a setback for the Ummah, but Allah is the best of planners and His plan overpowers all schemes and plots. The leaders who have attained Shahadah have gained the rewards and honours of the Akhirah, which are so great, that they will wish to be sent back to become Shaheed again. Courage and desire for Shahadah is learnt from the incident of ‘Abdullah bin Hudhafah as-Sahmi (RA) who when faced with being thrown into boiling oil lamented having only one life to give for Allah’s sake. Sayyidina ‘Umar (RA) was martyred at the hands of the slave Abu Lu’lu’ Firawz, fulfilling the Du’a that he made for martyrdom and death in Madinah. Similarly, Sayyidina Uthman, Sayyidina ‘Ali, Sayyidina Husayn, Sayyidina Abdullah bin Zubayr (RA) – great leaders of the Ummah - were all made Shaheed. Allah is the Protector of the Deen and He will send leaders for the Ummah until the end of time. A great leader of the Ummah was martyred - Hafiz Ismail Haniyah (R), whose noble qualities as a spiritual and social leader and a lover of the Qur’an serves as inspiration for the Believers. The garden of Islam is watered with the blood of the Shuhada, after which it flourishes once again.
