The Sahabah (RA) witnessed a dark era in the history of humanity known as Ayyaam al- Jahiliyyah (the days of ignorance and darkness); but Allah Ta’ala, through the blessing of Nabi Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam brought them out into the light of Islam and they became the best people after the Ambiya (AS). Allah Ta’ala granted them magnificent victories never before witnessed in such a short period, including that of defeating the two superpowers of then - the Roman and Persian Empires! Their qualities and attributes are the factors of success that we are required to adopt and emulate in order to draw Allah’s Help. An old man from the defeated army enumerated the reasons for defeat to Heracle in that they pray at night and fast during the day; they are particular about fulfilling their promises and undertakings; they encourage towards good, prevent from evil and establish justice and equity. A similar report related by an enemy spy regarding the Sahabah (RA) was that ?they are mighty soldiers rushing into the thick of the battle fearlessly, they engage in worship with devotion, ?they stand up for justice and give preference to following the truth over their desires. Due to lack of Imani qualities, today our example is like that of a lifeless stuffed lion that even a child can slap! But Sahabah (RA) were like real lions who caused armies to run!
