The goodness in gentleness
Jumuah, at Musjid ut Taqwa on February 5, 2021
We are living in a time when there is a lot of violence, oppression and harshness in the world, whereas Nabi-Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam taught his Ummah the very opposite, stressing the importance of mercy, kindness, tolerance and forgiveness. Today, harshness is viewed as a sign of courage and strength, and kindness and gentleness, a sign of weakness, yet Nabi-Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam preferred to be soft. Respect is commanded and not demanded, by way of good Akhl?q (conduct and manners). Nabi-Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam mentioned that gentleness adorns matters, and the removal of gentleness spoils it. He also mentioned that the person who has been given a share of softness and gentleness has been given a full share of goodness, and Allah makes harsh the person from whom He wants to take away goodness. Rauf, Raheem & Rafeeq are the qualities of Allah Ta’ala that reflect softness and gentleness; which He loves and will reward greatly if seen in His servants. When families deal with each other with gentleness and muhabbah, it is a sign that All?h wills good for them, the converse being a sign of deprivation. Allah Ta’ala will make the fire of Jahannam haram for every soft, gentle, kind, easy-going person, giving them the right to intercede and rescue those with Iman from Jahannam. Strive to develop these attributes in ourselves, to prevent ourselves and our families being deprived of goodness.
