The sermons of Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam Part 2 (Masjid-Jumuah)
There is tremendous admonition and inspiration in the sermons of Nabi-Karim Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam. After having spent a number of days in Quba, Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam delivered a khutbah in the locality of Banu Saalim bin Auf on the occasion of the first Jumu’ah Salah in Madinah. Every khutbah must entail the praises of Allah ?Ta’ala, seeking protection from shaytan, attesting to the oneness of Allah and prophethood of Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, and he commenced in this manner. After declaring his belief in Allah, he reminds the people that he was sent with guidance, light and advice as Khatamun-Nabiyyeen (the seal of the Ambiyaa AS), over 600 years having passed since the time of Isa AS. As a result, knowledge was little, people were astray whilst Qiyamah was nearing. In this khutbah, it is mentioned that the best advice a Muslim can give another is to encourage towards the Aakhirah and adopting Taqwa. Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam tells the people to heed the warnings Allah has given about Himself, and that Allah is gentle towards His servants, true to His word and never unjust. The repeated reminder, ‘Fear Allah’ is given throughout the sermon, particularly regarding one’s private and public matters; in this lies remarkable success, immense reward and protection from athaab (punishment). He instructs the Muslims to declare enmity for those who are Allah’s enemies. It is part of the perfection of Iman to love, hate, give and withhold for the sake of Allah. The latter part of the sermon exhorts the Zikr of Allah in abundance, and encompasses the constant theme of his sermons - the Greatness and Power of Allah Ta’ala.
