Live like Brothers, Deal like Strangers Part 2
Jumuah, at Musjid ut Taqwa on October 20, 2017
We must be like brothers in Social life Visit the sick, attend walima, have good interaction. But in Financial dealings we must act like strangers. There must be a contract and understanding between the parties to avoid any dispute. Even in case of inheritance in the family, all the details must be written and made clear from the very beginning. For example if a father has one son and two daughters. After the death of a father, the son will inherent 50 % and two daughters 25 % each. And if father and son were running a business and the matter was not made clear. The daughters will automatically become 50% (25% each) partners through the law of inheritance.
Everything must be decided upon in a person’s lifetime. It should not break down the relationship. Hatred and malice will result if things are not sorted out in the beginning. We should avoid the courts and litigation's. We may get our right through this, but our family ties get badly affected. Our Deen has given us clear cut ruling and guidelines regarding inheritance.
In the case of disputes, the Quran says to reconcile with one another i.e. to resolve things nicely between yourselves. One should not become hard and rigid with his family in inheritance matters. Be ready to compromise There will be barkat in this and love and unity in the family. May Allah ta’ala grant us this tawfeeq.
