Aashura - day of repentance
Jumuah, at Musjid ut Taqwa on September 29, 2017
Nabi (SAW) has referred the month of Muharram as the month of Allah. The one who fast one day in this month is equivalent to 30 days! (Hadith). It is the best fast after the month of Ramadan. Nabi (SAW) used to fast on the day of Aashura. There is great importance of Aashura Day even in the early Ummahs.
When Nabi (SAW), came to Madinah, some people (Ahlul Kitab) used to fast on 10 Muharram (thanks giving to Allah) as Allah gave salvation to Nabi Musa (AS) by protecting the people of Bani Israel from the oppression of Firoun. Upon hearing this, Nabi (SAW) fasted
Fasting of Aashura is compensation of the past years sins. Another virtue is that the one who spends on his family on this day, Allah will grant barkah. We should keep away from Bidah. We should not innovate things like Aashura Gifts or Aashura Meals or Aashura Sale. We should engage in acts of Ibadah (Zikr, Istighfar, charity and Nafl Salah etc.). There is a great wisdom and lesson in the day of Aashura i.e. Allah gave salvation to the nation of Musa from the oppression of Firaoun when they made sincere Taubah. Allah can give salvation to us also from all the oppression, if we make Taubah. Allah only has the power to destroy the oppressors of today as well. May Allah Ta’ala give us Tawfeeq to do sincere Taubah.
