Maintaining Taqwa after Ramadan

Jumuah, at Glenwood Musallah on June 30, 2017

Ramadan is the month of the training course for Taqwa. Islam means the total submission to Allah (without question), surrendering and becoming completely obedient on all articles of faith. Taqwa is complete obedience to Allah, Allah Consciousness, fearing (in the sense of disobedience of Allah) and seeking the pleasure of Allah and abstaining from all the evil acts.
In Ramadan, Allah Ta’ala has prohibited us from certain things. For example, abstaining from eating during day, we did not submit to the cravings, desires or even hunger. So we carry out Allah’s order in public or private.
This month of Ramadan comes before Hajj, in which the central thing is Taqwa. For every step of Hajj we will require Taqwa (for Maqbool and Mabroor Hajj). Clothes, food, Ihram and all other things are required in Hajj but Allah says the actual provision for the journey of Hajj is Taqwa (what we have to take with ourselves). Also on 10 Dhul Hijjah, the Day of Sacrificing, Taqwa should be the foremost thing for a believer. Allah says, “It is not the blood or flesh that reaches me, but it is Taqwa”. Taqwa is the certificate for having motivation in obeying Allah and abstaining from sins completely
To develop and maintain Taqwa, Allah Ta’ala has mentioned many ways or techniques to enhance Taqwa. Be fearful or conscious about the Hereafter. One way to develop Taqwa is to reflect and ponder on the Hereafter. Being in the company of righteous and pious (Sadiqeen); seeking the means of drawing close to Allah Ta’ala, and all actions pleasing to Allah, (following the Sunnah). We should also preserve this Taqwa and try to develop it
