The Ahlullah are the spiritual doctors of the Ummah. Allah SWT inspires them with the method of diagnosing and grants them the understanding of remedying spiritual illness. When a person seeks spiritual remedy with ikhlaas and practises upon the prescribed remedy, Allah SWT grants spiritual cure. The physical ailments of this world are temporary in nature as they end on death; however spiritual diseases will remain with a person in the qabr and will be present with a person before Allah SWT on the day of Qiyamah. When a person experiences physical illness much concern and effort is made for cure of the physical body. The concern and effort made on remedying spiritual maladies should thus be even greater as it concerns the Ruh which is the actual human being. Allah SWT mentions in the Holy Quran that the person who presents a ‘Qalboon Saleem’ (sound heart) will be successful in the Aakhirah. A sound heart in essence as explained by the Ulama is one free from spiritual maladies. A spiritually diseased heart can be likened to a dirty glass and Ibadah likened to milk whose enjoyment is spoilt by the dirty glass. The detrimental effect of such spiritual maladies is seen in the example of ignorance where lack of knowledge and understanding destroys one’s deeds, as a person’s Ibadah may be invalidated if they are unaware of the mas’alas pertaining to such Ibadah. It is thus very important to work towards remedying spiritual maladies, one of which is IGNORANCE.
