Pearls from the Mathnavi (P.24) - Shaitaan deceives the Salik from Zikrullah<\/h2>

\r\n

When Allah SWT created sweetness, will His name not have sweetness? Definitely, everybody experiences figuratively the sweetness of taking Allah\u2019s name. But some Auliya, as a favour from Allah SWT by virtue of their excessive Zikr made with love, shauq (desire) and ikhlas (sincerity), experience a physical sweetness. Shaytan works to distance the lover from the Beloved, making great effort on those aspiring to be pious. In the anecdote from the Mathnavi of Maulana Rumi (R), the Salik discards Zikr, due to wasawis (whispers of shaytan) causing him to become despondent of the benefit. Allah SWT then sends Khidr AS in his dream with the message \u2013 \u2018O My servant, your calling My Name is My reply!\u2019 When a sincere seeker goes off-track, Allah SWT sends the means of bringing them back onto the Path. Allah SWT says in the Qur\u2019an, \u2018Remember Me and I will remember you\u2019 - if He did not want to remember us (with His Favour and Mercy), He wouldn\u2019t have given us Taufiq to take His name! Do not be deceived by shaytan - when any barrier comes between us and good deeds, turn to Allah SWT for help and protection. Deeds must be done purely for the pleasure of Allah SWT; we should not aspire for or develop expectations of enjoyment, as this is ghair-ikhtiyari i.e. not attainable by one\u2019s effort. In the Path of Love, the objective is the Path itself - Taufiq of doing the action in itself is the greatest gift! Do not become concerned if shaytan causes one to slip and fall; get up quickly and carry on \u2013 this is how the Path of Allah is traversed! <\/p>\n
