The foundations for the unification of the Ummah

Jumuah, at Musjid ut Taqwa on December 4, 2020

In Surah Hujurat, Allah ?Ta’ala lays out a number of injunctions which are significant to the wellbeing of the Muslim society and is the foundation for the unification of the Ummah. ‘Hujurat’ refers to the rooms (homes) of Nabi-Karim Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam which were small in size and very simple in structure. Allah ?Ta’ala gives a strict instruction not to show the slightest disrespect to Nabi-Karim Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, raise one’s voice in his presence and to be wary of one’s conduct in front of him. These verses are inscribed on the Raudha Mubarak as a reminder to the Ummah of the absolute Adab (respect) required when presenting oneself in front of Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, who is enjoying a superior form of life in the Qabr. This instruction of showing respect extends to those who are the guides and teachers of the Ummah i.e. the Ulama and Elders. Another injunction given is to not act on any information without verification and authentication; social media is not a credible source! Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam warned that it is sufficient for a person to be considered a sinner for spreading everything he hears or receives. In the event of a dispute or misunderstanding, resolve the problem and if necessary, appoint a mediator/arbitrator. Unity was greatly emphasised by Nabi-Karim Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, who taught the Sahaba that to work towards harmonisation of relationships is greater than Salah, fasting and charity (Nafl). When we disregarded the teachings of Allah Ta’ala and Nabi-Karim Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, the Ummah became disunited and thus, weak and overpowered.
