Shake off heedlessness and focus on the great months - Avondale Musallah

Zikr Majlis, at Avondale Musallah, Durban on March 7, 2019

We are about to enter the spiritual ‘high season’ of the Mu’min with the approach of Rajab, Sha’ban and Ramadan, regarding which Nabi ? would make the dua, ‘Allahumma barik lana fee Rajab wa Sha’ban waballighna Ramadan’. Grasp these opportunities, in accordance with the exhortation of Nabi-e Kareem ? to appreciate five opportunities before five obstacles – youth before old age, good health before illness, free time before occupation, financial means before poverty and life before death. Dunya is the place of deeds, and the ‘farm’ of the Akhirah is where rewards will be reaped. Be content with what Allah has given from His bounties, rather than chasing after more, forgetting we are being hunted by maut! If Allah has given the means, drive, eat and wear the best, but also adopt the ‘best’ when it comes to A’maal, Ibadah and His obedience! Allah SWT has given us a beautiful lesson of maintaining balance in the Qur’an - acquire the Hereafter by righteously spending the wealth He has given, but not forgetting your worldly needs. These months are a time for spiritual ‘alignment’ towards our purpose of life - the pleasure of Allah SWT and to prepare for the Akhirah, and a time to intensify in Ibadah and A’maal ‘warming up’ for Ramadan. True life is that spent in Allah’s remembrance, and life spent in otherwise is a disgrace! Come out of heedlessness, an attribute condemned by Allah, by doing introspection and with the intention of rectifying our shortcomings.
