Matric Results and Career Choices
At this time of the year when the matric results are released, there are those that have succeeded and others who have not. It reminds us of a similar scenario which will be on the Day of Qiyamah, when our results of the exam of life will be released. There too there will be two categories of people, those who have succeeded and those who have failed outright. The one who will be given his book of deeds in his right hand will have achieved success. He knew he had to come to this day, so he prepared himself. Likewise a student who works consistently will see the fruits of his efforts. As for the one who has failed and was unsuccessful, he will be given his book of deeds in his left hand. His wealth and power will be of no benefit to him, because he has not met the standard which Allah Ta’ala has set. On that day, there will be no turning back, whereas in this world, you may be able to write a sub-exam or send your paper for remarking, but there will be no 2nd chance on Yaumul Qiyaamah. Your good symbols in this world are of no benefit if your symbols in Aakhirah are ‘F’s. Students and parents should never become boastful and arrogant about the academic achievement. Allah loves Tashak-kur, and not Takab-bur. Matric opens doors, but it does not mean that all opportunities depend on it. Hard work pays, discipline, determination, focus and persistence is the formula for the success in our life and in our community as well. There is complacency in the Muslim community today, we have lagged behind while others have surged forward. When we make career choices, look at the criteria- it must be Islamically correct. When choosing a career, make Istikhara and mashwarah. Your career choice should benefit mankind. It should not be a materialistic objective, but make a noble intention. No career is too low. Anything that allows a person to earn a Halal income can be considered. In Islam even an ordinary labourer is to be valued and appreciated.
