Most Comprehensive Verse in Quran
Umar bin Abdul Aziz (R) introduced this one verse which summarises the teaching of the Quran into the Jumauh sermon so that we have something to take back with us, because it is so comprehensive. Allah orders justice, kindness and giving to relatives and prohibits immorality, evil and oppression. The teachings of Islam centre around these 3 do’s and 3 don’ts. Allah gives a sermon so that we may ponder and implement these rules in our lives. 1. Adl: to be just and fair at all times. A sign of a true Muslim is that you love for your brother what you love for yourself. Adl is to believe in Allah and then to fulfill the rights of people. The beauty of Deen is that when there is justice, there will be peace. 2. Ihsan: to be kind, benevolent and of benefit to people, even when it is not our duty. The purpose of a Muslims life is that we benefit others from that which Allah has blessed us with. This is a means of earning Jannah and people entering the fold of Islam. 3. To help the relatives: relatives are specially mentioned because we are responsible for our family before helping others. Charity given to family earns double reward. Allah prohibits 3 things: this is the ‘silly season’ and people in the public are out celebrating, so there is a lot of fitnah. We have to be very careful that we don’t get involved in wrong. Islamic dressing and haya should always be maintained. Salah has to be read wherever we go. We should never be ashamed to read Salah. Many visit places where haram takes place, whereas Allah’s curse is upon those places. These are the things we have to keep in mind.
