Striving to obtain the means of comfort for the Aakhirah - Avondale Musallah
In the life of this world there are two groups of people: those who have the means of physical and material comfort, and those without. Those without the physical and material means endure great discomfort and difficulty in adverse weather conditions, whereas those with these means are able to control the atmosphere for their comfort. Similarly, there will be two groups of people on the day of Qiyamah. Those with the spiritual means of Iman, Amaal and Akhlaaq will enjoy tremendous comfort, luxury, pleasure and tranquility; whereas those without the spiritual means will be in a state of anxiety, restlessness and misery. Allah SWT makes mention of these two groups in Surah Zumar, describing how the group of disbelievers will be driven and plunged into Jahannum; whereas the group who have Iman and who feared Allah SWT will be taken and entered into Jannah with dignity and honour. Allah SWT has sent us into this world for a limited time in which we are required to fulfill the purpose of our creation. We must comply fully with Allah Ta’ala’s orders, and more importantly, abstain from all which He has prohibited. A person may do a lot of Ibadah, but if he indulges in sin, such as dealing in riba (interest), alcohol, drugs, gambling etc. he nullifies the effect of his Ibadah. On the day of Qiyamah such a sinner will present themselves, only to find all their good deeds ‘scattered like dust’ and destroyed as a result of their sins! Adopting the path of obedience, and conscientiously abstaining from all Allah Ta’ala’s prohibitions is a means of comfort in Dunya, and the ultimate comfort and pleasure of the Aakhirah!
