Advices of Ibrahim bin Adham Rah - Part 1

Islahi Majlis, at Musjid ut Taqwa on July 3, 2017

Sultan Ibrahim bin Adham (R) was the Ruler of Balkh, until Allah Rabbul Izzat inspired him to repent. He gave up a life of luxury, and chose a life of absolute simplicity. He then studied various branches of knowledge becoming a great Aalim, Scholar of Hadith and Qira’ah, and a Master in the field of Tasawwuf. He had the good fortune of studying briefly under Imam Abu Hanifa (R), and under Abdullah bin Mubarak (R) who was the student of Imam Abu Hanifa (R). The great Wali, Sayyidina Abdul Qadir Jilani (R) used to say, ‘Ibrahim bin Adham is the key to knowledge of the Auliya’, indicative of the great rank Allah SWT had given him. Amongst his outstanding qualities was that he used to be constantly engaged in Zikrullah, and made it a requirement for all those who used to join his gatherings. Another of his great qualities was concern for the Muslim Ummah. Nabi-e-Kareem (SAW) mentioned, ‘The person who is not concerned about the wellbeing of the Ummah is not part of us’. The constant admonition and advice of the Auliya Allah is to turn people away from the temporary benefits of dunya, and to connect and bring people close to Allah SWT. We too should have this concern, and encourage our relatives, neighbours and friends to come to Majalis and programmes. The collective ‘wattage’ of the light of Iman in the hearts’ of those in such gatherings becomes a powerful floodlight which guides a person out of darkness. The constant ‘drops’ of nasihah will eventually soften even the hardest of hearts, even if it’s hard like a rock, and in this way lives are transformed.
