Ramadaan - a workshop of Sabr

Jumuah, at Musjid ut Taqwa on June 2, 2017

Nabi (sallahahu alaihi wasallam) gave many descriptions of the month of Ramadan. Amongst them is that this month is a blessed month. This is a month of Sabr and Nabi (sallahahu alaihi wasallam) added that the reward of Sabr (patience) is Jannah. It is reported that a person who suffered his whole life, having not experienced for even a second happiness in his life, rather his life was of pain, suffering and agony when this person passed away he was dipped in Jannah for one second. When asked thereafter about his worldly difficulties, he will say he has no recollection of any pain or suffering. The life of this world does not always go in our favour. There will be happy moments and difficult moments. Therefore a Believer, will have to exercise the quality of Sabr. This month of Ramadan has come to train, teach and prepare us in the lesson of Sabr for the rest of the year. Sabr has different dimensions namely:
1. Restraining oneself from sin.
2. To persevere and be steadfast
3. To be patient during calamities and problems.
The closer a person is to Allah SWT the greater will be his test. The people of Sabr will get without count great rewards. The month of Ramadan has come to teach us Sabr. Especially with regards to anger, it is said that
“The beginning of anger is madness and its end is regret.”
Nabi (sallahahu alaihi wasallam) has said:
“The person who is given four things is given the best of this world and the Hereafter:
1. A grateful heart.
2. A tongue moist with the zikr of Allah SWT.
3. A body that exercises sabr
4. A wife that is obedient and pious.”
