Pearls from Mathnavi (P. 10) - King's Falcon<\/h2>

In the anecdote, \u2018The King\u2019s Falcon\u2019 from the Mathnavi Shareef of Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (R), the falcon flies away from the Palace of the king, only to be disfigured by an old woman who in ignorance considers the traits of perfection in the falcon to be faults. Maulana Rumi (R) explains that just like the falcon, when the young Mu\u2019min who has been brought up in the sanctuary of his parent\u2019s home with care, concern and restrictions in order to develop his abilities falls into the wrong company, his capabilities will be spoilt and sometimes, his whole life may be destroyed. Maulana Thanwi (R) draws another beautiful example from this anecdote, likening the Deen of Allah SWT to the falcon which in its pristine purity and original form according to the Qur\u2019an and Sunnah is beautiful and powerful. When those who are ignorant or whose knowledge is defective, tamper and interfere with the Deen, thinking they are beautifying it and making it fit into modern times, they actually \u2018mutilate\u2019 the Deen and take away its beauty!.
\nThe moon has been sighted and it is the beginning of a new Islamic year. Emulate the Sahabah-e-Kiraam (RA) in learning and reading the duas for the sighting of the new moon and the new year so we can attain the barakah of these duas. Begin the year by making good intentions, such as to be steadfast in fitting ourselves into environments of Deen. Keep to the limits of Qur\u2019an and Sunnah and abstain from unfounded practices such as wishing each other \u2018Happy New Year\u2019, \u2018Muharram gifts\u2019 and \u2018Ashura suppers\u2019. <\/p>\n
